Senior Android Engineer (Mobile Platform & Systems)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; onsite collaboration with hardware and firmware teams

Annual pay range: $150,000–$265,000 USD in on-target earnings for full-time employees, with possible additional bonuses and equity.

What you will do

• Maintain and evolve the Jetpack Compose native component library for scalable, accessible, and consistent mobile experiences.
• Improve Android developer experience through CI/CD optimization, test automation, and automated multi-team releases.
• Maintain networking infrastructure supporting offline-first synchronization, intelligent caching, and secure data transit.
• Implement low-level BLE, NFC, and custom Wi-Fi protocols for secure phone-to-hardware communication.
• Optimize the type-safe native-web bridge connecting web components with device sensors, secure enclaves, and core system logic.
• Advise product teams on platform architecture and patterns such as Server-Driven UI.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional Android development experience with deep Kotlin and Android SDK expertise.
• Strong experience with mobile CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or Bitrise and a test-first approach.
• Deep knowledge of OkHttp, Retrofit, Protobuf, unreliable network conditions, and large-scale synchronization.
• Hands-on experience with Bluetooth Low Energy, NFC, or Android background execution limits.
• Expertise in Jetpack Compose and scaling shared UI libraries across multiple teams.
• Experience managing Google Play Store releases for frequently deployed applications with multiple contributors.
