Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; preference for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York. Offices are located in San Francisco and New York.

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems for web-scale, AI-driven search products.
• Develop public APIs and SDKs for external developers.
• Build billing, account, permissions, and provisioning systems for enterprise customers.
• Maintain high-performance SQL, NoSQL, and analytics databases at scale.
• Implement observability, monitoring, and on-call practices for large-scale AI workloads.
• Refactor existing systems and contribute to team-wide engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Strong generalist backend engineering experience with ownership from design through deployment.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, API design, and scalability trade-offs.
• Experience shipping and operating mission-critical services under high-volume traffic.
• Backend focus with Python or a similar language; ability to work across the stack when needed.
• Experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and system-level debugging.
• Experience with billing and payments, B2B SaaS tooling, enterprise software, or LLM/AI integrations.
