Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in New York City, San Francisco, or Seattle, United States, with a minimum of two in-office days per week and occasional team and company offsites.

Salary: $180,000–$250,000 USD annual base salary, plus potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate backend services in Go or Python for the managed infrastructure platform.
• Develop control plane services that provision, orchestrate, and manage Kubernetes and Slurm clusters across large-scale GPU infrastructure.
• Build distributed systems for cluster lifecycle management, workload scheduling, infrastructure provisioning, and platform operations.
• Develop Kubernetes APIs, controllers, operators, and other cloud-native platform capabilities.
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, security, and observability through automation and operational excellence.
• Diagnose complex production issues and collaborate with infrastructure, AI, and platform engineering teams on architecture, mentoring, and on-call operations.

Requirements

• Significant professional experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems with Go or Python.
• Deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes or Slurm in large-scale production environments.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, networking, storage, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience building scalable backend services, APIs, and infrastructure automation.
• Familiarity with observability, CI/CD, testing, production operations, and incident response.
• Ability to own complex technical projects and collaborate effectively across engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Kubernetes platform development with operators, controllers, CRDs, or control plane components.
• Slurm administration, scheduling, or HPC experience.
• Infrastructure-as-Code or GitOps tools such as Terraform, Crossplane, Helm, Argo CD, Flux, or Kustomize.
• GPU infrastructure, AI platforms, Kubernetes networking or storage, and multi-tenant platform architecture.
• Experience with event-driven systems, gRPC, distributed messaging, CI/CD systems, or cloud-native open-source projects.
