Controls Engineer (Fuel Fabrication)

Location: Idaho Falls, ID or remote within the United States. Remote employees must travel to headquarters in Santa Clara, CA twice per quarter based on business or team needs, and work in person at headquarters during the first two weeks of onboarding. Only applicants who meet the definition of a U.S. person under applicable U.S. export control laws may be eligible.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop, program, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC, DCS, HMI, and instrumentation and control systems for fuel fabrication facilities.
• Integrate manufacturing equipment data from systems such as Allen-Bradley and Siemens into facility-wide SCADA platforms.
• Design and manage SQL databases for process data, product quality metrics, inventory tracking, and facility support systems.
• Develop automated pass/fail logic, product genealogy, traceability tools, and digital product reports in the SCADA/MES layer.
• Support commissioning through Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing, ensuring accurate data capture during equipment cycling.
• Draft and execute IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols for inspection-ready digital systems and quality audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in electrical mechatronics, computer, electrical, industrial and systems engineering, or a related discipline.
• 3+ years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience, including PLC, SCADA, SQL databases, and software verification and validation.
• Ability to write scripts in Python, VBA, or similar languages for data manipulation.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and manufacturing facility documentation.
• Experience collaborating with engineering disciplines, external manufacturers, vendors, and engineering consultants.
• U.S. person eligibility may be required because the position may involve access to information subject to U.S. export control laws.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating custom manufacturing equipment into facility SCADA systems.
• Experience building SQL databases for process, quality, maintenance, work order, EH&S, inventory, or procurement data.
• Experience in the nuclear industry and with NQA-1 or similar quality standards.
