Staff Software Development Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid in Bellevue, Washington, or remote from Florida

Compensation: $210,000–$240,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Define the multi-quarter technical roadmap for the Business team and align it with company priorities.
• Design, build, and operate high-throughput microservices and distributed systems with strong reliability, latency, and observability.
• Deliver features across five business verticals and integrate with partners such as Stripe and Shopify.
• Lead experimentation strategy, design A/B tests, analyze results, and use data to guide product decisions.
• Set engineering standards, improve existing applications, and create frameworks that increase team effectiveness.
• Mentor engineers, communicate technical designs, and collaborate with Product, Design, Business, and other engineering teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience and experience building data-driven applications at scale.
• Strong Java skills are required, plus fluency in another modern programming language.
• Hands-on experience with microservices, scalable distributed systems, object-oriented design, data structures, load balancing, and high traffic volumes.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud infrastructure, data analysis, and translating results into business recommendations.
• Experience developing technical vision, balancing engineering improvements with business needs, and mentoring engineers.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Full-stack experience with React, TypeScript, and GraphQL.
• Payment and third-party platform integrations, including Stripe, Shopify, or marketplace platforms.
• Experience with A/B testing platforms such as Statsig, LaunchDarkly, or Optimizely.
• Experience with analytics warehouses such as BigQuery or Snowflake.
