Lead Manufacturing Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom; Workplace: On-site

Salary: up to £60,000 per year, dependent on skills and experience

What you will do

• Lead the development, implementation, improvement, and automation of HTS coil manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Develop manufacturing tooling and machinery from concept through build and commissioning.
• Improve existing processes for custom and scalable production, repeatability, and reproducibility.
• Collaborate with R&D, design, modelling, safety, and quality teams to transition innovations into production-ready processes.
• Organise the day-to-day workflow of the manufacturing team and mentor junior team members.
• Manage risk assessments, material traceability, data analysis, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience with a proven record in manufacturing process development.
• Experience designing, building, and commissioning manufacturing tooling.
• Proven leadership experience in an engineering environment, such as Team Leader or Supervisor.
• Experience working with superconducting materials and coil-winding tooling.
• Strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving skills, adaptability, and resilience.
