Manufacturing Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: On-site in Somerville, Massachusetts, United States. Monday through Friday, 2:00 pm–11:00 pm. The role may occasionally require travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work.

Salary: $100,000–$160,000 per year, including a 10% shift differential. A separate listing states $107,000–$160,000 per year. The position also includes equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and ensure product quality.
• Develop and maintain work instructions, standard operating procedures, process documentation, and process flow diagrams.
• Collaborate with design and development engineers, production staff, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure product manufacturability.
• Implement Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, continuous improvement initiatives, and best practices across the facility.
• Lead the design and procurement of production tools, fixtures, and equipment; conduct time and motion studies to optimize production methods and labor utilization.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, implement corrective actions, ensure compliance with safety and industry standards, and evaluate automation and other manufacturing technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems.
• Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD and manufacturing ERP systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication and teamwork abilities, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and perform typing, standing, stooping, and sitting for extended periods.
• Dedication to safety when working around potential hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
