TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Fusion Energy): Designing and optimizing manufacturing processes for commercially viable fusion power plant production with an accent on productivity, quality, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma. Focus on developing production documentation, designing tooling and equipment, troubleshooting process issues, and evaluating automation solutions.

Location: On-site in Somerville, Massachusetts, United States. Monday through Friday, 2:00 pm–11:00 pm; occasional nights, weekends, on-call work, or travel may be required.

Salary: $100,000–$160,000 per year, including a 10% shift differential, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and ensure product quality.
  • Develop process documentation, work instructions, SOPs, and process flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, production, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure product manufacturability.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the design and procurement of production tools, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, conduct time and motion studies, and evaluate automation technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or production engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD and manufacturing ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work on-site on the second shift and comply with U.S. export control requirements. Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and work around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.

  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
