TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer - First Shift (Fusion Energy): Designing and optimizing manufacturing processes for commercially viable fusion power plant production with an accent on productivity, quality, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma. Focus on developing process documentation, improving manufacturability, designing production tools and fixtures, troubleshooting equipment, and evaluating automation solutions.

Location: Somerville, Massachusetts, United States; on-site

Salary: $90,000–$145,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Analyze and optimize manufacturing processes to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and ensure product quality.
  • Develop process documentation, including work instructions, SOPs, and process flow diagrams.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and product development teams to ensure manufacturability.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methods and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the design and procurement of production tools, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues, conduct time and motion studies, and evaluate automation solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or production engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD and manufacturing ERP systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work on-site and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs; willingness to work occasional nights, weekends, on-call shifts, or travel.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
