Network Engineer

Location: Durham, North Carolina (RTP), United States; regular on-site presence required. On-call rotation and overtime flexibility are required.

What you will do

• Design, implement, operate, and improve enterprise networking across campus, laboratory, data center, manufacturing, WAN, and AWS environments.
• Deploy and troubleshoot Juniper and Aruba switching and routing infrastructure, including Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, VLANs, routing protocols, and high availability.
• Configure and optimize Palo Alto firewalls, security policies, NAT, VPNs, GlobalProtect, URL filtering, and threat prevention services.
• Build AWS networking and hybrid connectivity using VPCs, Transit Gateway, route tables, security groups, network ACLs, Site-to-Site VPNs, and Direct Connect.
• Develop infrastructure automation with Python, Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, or similar tools, while improving monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and operational visibility.
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Security, Infrastructure, and application teams on deployments, cloud migrations, lifecycle management, documentation, and production support.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Juniper and/or Aruba platforms, including switching, routing, and troubleshooting.
• 3+ years of experience managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including security policies, NAT, VPNs, GlobalProtect, and threat prevention.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with AWS networking and hybrid cloud connectivity.
• Experience with BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP, LACP, VRRP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, and Layer 2/Layer 3 troubleshooting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, plus willingness to participate in on-call support.

Nice to have

• Experience with EVPN/VXLAN, AWS Direct Connect, Aruba CX, Aruba Central, VMware vSphere, and virtualization networking.
• Experience with Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Knowledge of Active Directory, PKI, RADIUS, and enterprise authentication services.
• Experience in laboratory, biotechnology, healthcare, manufacturing, or regulated environments.
• Relevant Juniper, Aruba, Palo Alto, or AWS certifications and experience mentoring engineers.
