Forward Deployed Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in the UK, based in London or Edinburgh, with customer travel shaped by deployment needs

Salary: £90K–£150K plus equity

What you will do

• Lead engineering workstreams for customer deployments, owning architecture, implementation quality, evaluation strategy, and production readiness.
• Build AI applications, agents, and workflow tools using LLMs, retrieval, orchestration, APIs, data systems, and production software practices.
• Lead technical discovery and translate customer workflows into reliable AI systems with technical teams and business stakeholders.
• Guide engineers through ambiguous technical decisions, reviewing designs, code, trade-offs, and operating assumptions.
• Prototype rapidly, identify reusable patterns, and harden successful solutions into reference architectures and implementation assets.
• Design evaluation and monitoring approaches that improve quality, reliability, safety, and customer trust.

Requirements

• Senior software engineering experience building production applications and microservices.
• Experience with APIs, scalable data pipelines, data systems, and cloud infrastructure.
• Strong Python and SQL skills for enterprise data applications.
• Production LLM experience, including agents, retrieval, evaluation, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and model integration.
• Experience leading projects from prototype to production while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Ability to write code, review designs, mentor engineers, and communicate clearly with executive, product, research, customer, and engineering audiences.
