Lead Quantum Algorithms Scientist

Location: Washington, District of Columbia, United States; hybrid workplace.

Annual compensation: $150,000–$210,000, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Lead and mentor scientists conducting theoretical and applied research on near-term quantum-computing algorithms, applications, and enabling technologies.
• Coordinate the US team’s research direction in collaboration with the Head of the US office and senior science leadership.
• Guide research outputs including publications, presentations, patent applications, and grant proposals.
• Identify and drive new research directions aligned with the company’s science strategy.
• Support scientists’ professional development and foster collaboration across full-time staff and affiliated PhD students.

Requirements

• Expertise in quantum information and/or quantum-computation theory.
• PhD in quantum information, quantum-computation theory, computer science, physics, or a closely related field.
• Independent research leadership experience and a strong publication record in a relevant discipline.
• Experience leading multiple complex, collaborative scientific research projects and developing a team of scientists.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including communication with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to understand funding requirements and independently write effective grant applications.

Nice to have

• Experience implementing algorithms on quantum hardware or in classical emulation.
• Strong theoretical or mathematical research experience with an interest in applying it to quantum computing.
• Software development skills and experience.
• Enthusiasm for learning and novel research.
