Engineer II - Applications (Hardware & Systems)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; onsite role. Travel within North America and internationally may be required for trade shows and customer-site debugging, with travel expected up to 25%.

Annual base salary: $70,304–$143,000, plus restricted stock units and quarterly bonus payments.

What you will do

• Provide technical customer support for datacenter and server products across design wins, product ramp-up, production, and system bring-up.
• Support SAS, SATA, NVMe, RAID controller firmware, operating-system drivers, management software, PCIe, security, and encryption technologies.
• Perform board-level debugging, minor hardware reworks, scripting, code updates, and root-cause analysis of customer issues.
• Set up and maintain system compatibility and debugging labs, knowledge bases, and issue-tracking databases.
• Collaborate with product development, validation, marketing, sales, customers, ecosystem partners, and distribution channels.
• Prepare customer documentation and training, and provide support at customer sites and trade shows.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
• At least 2.5 years of directly related experience in applications engineering or hardware customer support.
• Working knowledge of SAS/SATA, SCSI, PCIe/CXL, NVMe, and other storage technologies.
• Experience with board-level debugging, schematic and layout reviews, and bench equipment such as protocol analyzers, logic analyzers, and storage or networking test equipment.
• Programming proficiency in Python and C/C++, with TCL/TK or another scripting language.
• Strong customer-facing communication, presentation, teamwork, initiative, ownership, and multitasking skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with RISC, MIPS, or ARM embedded processors, storage accelerators, server BIOS, device drivers, and server or storage firmware.
• Experience with AI/ML, deep learning, natural language processing, TCP/IP, local-area networking, and storage management technologies such as MCTP and BMC.
• Experience with high-speed debug equipment, kernel debugging, JTAG, serial ports, Green Hills Debugger, and storage-industry products.
