Sr R&D Manager - Commercial System Manager - 820 (Quantum Computing Hardware)

Salary: $207,000–$258,750 annually, inclusive of bonus target

What you will do

• Lead system-level architecture, design, build, construction planning, integration, and release of next-generation trapped-ion quantum computer systems.
• Own hardware configuration management and system validation and verification before release.
• Guide technical trade studies and analyses to mature concepts and reduce project risks.
• Develop test plans and coordinate handoffs with electrical, optical, microfabrication, software, vacuum, and cryogenic subsystem leads.
• Define team milestones, decision points, transition gates, interdependencies, and strategic execution plans.
• Manage resources, priorities, risks, progress reporting, hiring, mentoring, performance assessments, and career development for engineers and scientists.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• At least 8 years of technical research and development experience, including graduate school.
• At least 5 years of experience developing or operating AMO and/or quantum computing systems.
• At least 2 years leading an advanced technical team, through task leadership, personnel management, or both.
• Direct technical-industry people management experience.
• Must be a U.S. Person: U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or worker granted asylum or refugee status. Candidates must not be nationals of China or Russia unless also U.S. citizens.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 15+ years of relevant technical experience and 5+ years of leadership experience.
• Quantum computing industry experience and expertise in trapped-ion or cold-atom physics.
• Experience with complex task management covering cost, schedule, risk, and opportunities.
• Technology development experience and an active professional network.
