Senior Software Engineering Manager (Quantum Computing)

Location: Berkeley, CA or Fremont, CA; on-site

What you will do

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional software engineering team spanning scientific tooling, analytics infrastructure, and fabrication-support systems.
• Drive execution across scientific computing, fabrication tooling, analytics systems, and workflow automation.
• Oversee data platforms and modeling tools that connect design files, fabrication process data, and device performance metrics.
• Support software for quantum-system characterization, measurement, design-rule checking, layout-versus-schematic checks, and process-aware design verification.
• Improve prioritization, ownership, maintainability, validation, scalability, and operational reliability of internal systems.
• Collaborate with quantum engineers, physicists, fabrication engineers, hardware teams, and algorithm researchers while contributing technically when needed.

Requirements

• BS or equivalent degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, or a related field.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in people leadership or equivalent technical leadership.
• Experience building data systems, scalable data pipelines, and systems managing large datasets and metadata.
• Experience with streaming architectures and tools such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Spark Streaming.
• Proficiency in Python, familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript, and experience with AWS and distributed computing.
• Strong coaching, communication, stakeholder management, architecture, and hands-on engineering skills.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of quantum device physics, quantum control systems, cryogenic hardware, RF electronics, or qubit calibration.
• Experience with semiconductor or quantum fabrication processes, EDA tools, PDKs, KLayout, or Cadence.
• Experience with scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, or PyTorch.
• Experience applying machine learning to scientific, operational, or hardware systems.
• Experience with Go or Rust.
