Backend Engineer - DevEx Team (AI)

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid with 3 days in-office

Salary: $163,000–$220,000 USD annual base salary, plus potential annual performance-based incentive and benefits.

What you will do

• Help build an agentic, AI-based software development lifecycle supporting software design, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Apply software development expertise to platform engineering and cloud infrastructure initiatives for US engineering teams.
• Architect and own cloud-only infrastructure while treating the platform as a product for the engineering organization.
• Work across cloud and applicative infrastructure to solve complex engineering challenges with advanced technologies and cloud services.
• Identify developer-experience friction points and lead projects that improve R&D workflows.
• Partner with business stakeholders to align platform capabilities with innovation and business value.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience as a software developer in a fast-paced, cloud-oriented organization.
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent qualification.
• Experience initiating, designing, implementing, and leading meaningful projects.
• Solid experience with at least one of Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, TypeScript, Bash, or Python.
• Experience improving development processes and developer experience; strong problem-solving, communication, adaptability, and curiosity about AI technologies.
• Understanding of CI/CD, cloud infrastructure as code, Kubernetes, containers, observability, build tools, testing methodologies, and internal developer platforms.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience developing Jenkins pipelines.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes, containers, and observability tools for monitoring, logging, and tracing.
• Knowledge of Maven, Gradle, npm, nx, or similar build tools.
• Experience with internal developer portals and self-service tools such as Backstage.
