Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in New York City, Copenhagen, London, or Silicon Valley.

Salary: $200,000–$400,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design stable, well-typed interfaces across local CLI tools, web products, and backend services.
• Evolve Postgres schemas, migrations, event histories, and other durable state.
• Build lifecycle, queueing, retry, cancellation, idempotency, and recovery behavior for long-running work.
• Improve software running across developer machines and containerized environments.
• Improve observability through metrics, traces, structured logs, health checks, and operator tooling.
• Optimize APIs, database access, event processing, execution paths, testing, packaging, deployment, and recovery.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience and a record of shipping backend systems.
• Experience designing APIs and data models and reasoning about concurrency and state.
• Experience operating production services where reliability, observability, maintainability, and performance matter.
• Ability to reason about distributed failure modes, including retries, partial completion, duplicate work, cancellation, and recovery.
• Ability to debug across clients or CLIs, services, databases, and deployment infrastructure.
• Product mindset focused on understandable and dependable systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with Postgres, Redis or Valkey, event-driven architectures, or high-volume stateful services.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers, cloud infrastructure, or on-premises customer environments.
• Experience with developer tools, CLIs, workflow engines, job schedulers, or distributed execution systems.
• Background in semiconductors, EDA, or hardware engineering workflows.
