What you will do

  • Design, modify, operate, and maintain advanced solid-state and gas pulsed laser systems.
  • Improve laser beam quality by specifying, sourcing, installing, and aligning optical components and hardware.
  • Calibrate laser characterization equipment and develop high-energy laser diagnostics with vendors.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee spectroscopic experiments, including accurate data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Write procedures and documentation for technicians and provide training on laser maintenance and alignment.
  • Collaborate with optics, controls, and other engineering and scientific teams to develop reliable laser systems.

Requirements

  • BS with 3+ years of experience, or MS with 1–2 years of related laboratory experience; PhD is desired.
  • Advanced knowledge of solid-state and gas pulsed lasers and laser pulse characterization.
  • Experience specifying, budgeting, purchasing, installing, and operating lasers, detectors, optics, spectrometers, and scientific research equipment.
  • Experience with nonlinear frequency conversion, laser-based experiments, troubleshooting, and complex laser system maintenance.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering and science teams, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must meet U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or refugee/asylee admission requirements.

Nice to have

  • PhD in electrical engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related field.
  • Expertise in optical spectroscopy, gas kinetics, gain dynamics, pulse shaping, spectral shaping, or electro-optical devices.
  • Experience aligning Ti:Sapphire laser systems, building laser beamlines, and working with high-damage-threshold optics.
  • Experience with ns and fs pulse diagnostics, vacuum systems, fiber optics, phase masks, or free-form optics.
  • Experience with Matlab, Python, LabVIEW, scientific publishing, or leading optical, laser, and controls engineers.

Culture & Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) with a company match of up to 6%.
