TL;DR
Divertor Plasma Physicist (Scientist/Sr. Scientist/Manager) (Fusion Energy): Designing and simulating stellarator divertors and plasma exhaust systems with an accent on edge magnetic geometry, plasma-material interaction, and computational optimization. Focus on developing fluid-plasma simulation algorithms, optimizing divertor operation scenarios for the Eos stellarator, and validating models against experimental data.

Location: Kearny, New Jersey, United States; on-site

Salary: $120,000–$195,000 per year

Company

hirify.global develops stellarator-based fusion energy systems using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils to create a simpler path toward commercial fusion power.

What you will do

  • Design and optimize divertor magnetic and mechanical geometry, including target plates.
  • Analyze stellarator edge magnetic geometry and provide feedback to optimization and engineering teams.
  • Develop algorithms and simulations for fluid plasma in complex magnetic edge topologies.
  • Develop and optimize divertor operating scenarios for the Eos stellarator.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers across disciplines on stellarator divertor systems.
  • Analyze data, validate models, and prepare technical reports, presentations, and publications.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in scientific programming languages such as Python, Fortran, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with plasma physics simulation tools and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage complex projects, and collaborate with internal and external science and engineering teams.
  • Ability to work on-site in Kearny, New Jersey.

Nice to have

  • Experience with edge plasma models including BMW, FLARE, SOLPS, UEDGE, or EMC3-EIRENE.
  • Experience on a plasma physics experimental device, especially a large stellarator or tokamak.
  • Understanding of plasma fluid and neutral particle models.
  • Experience with plasma-material interactions or high-performance computing environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Employee equity through stock options.
  • 20 days of paid time off.
