TL;DR
Staff Robot Controls Integration Engineer (Robotics): Integrating motor control stacks, real-time communication protocols, and sensing systems into reliable robot platforms with an accent on embedded firmware, control theory, and hardware bringup. Focus on validating closed-loop behavior, profiling sub-millisecond latency, designing hardware-in-the-loop tests, and diagnosing control, firmware, communication, and hardware failures.

Location: Mountain View, United States

Salary: $225,000–$280,000 per year plus equity

Company

hirify.global builds generalist intelligent robots across the full robotics stack, including hardware, robot systems, infrastructure, foundation world models, and manufacturing.

What you will do

  • Integrate control strategies from MATLAB/Simulink into real-time firmware on microcontrollers and real-time Linux systems.
  • Bring up and commission CAN and EtherCAT communication buses, including encoder linearization, sensor calibration, and protocol timing verification.
  • Characterize motors and actuators through cogging torque compensation, field-oriented control tuning, friction modeling, Bode analysis, and step-response testing.
  • Design hardware-in-the-loop test benches, fault-injection scenarios, and automated tests for closed-loop behavior, stability, and latency.
  • Profile real-time performance across firmware interrupt handlers, communication pipelines, and control loops.
  • Diagnose field failures and implement durable fixes in collaboration with Firmware and Hardware teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in motor controls, real-time systems and firmware, communication protocols, sensor integration, or related areas.
  • Hands-on experience implementing or tuning PID, field-oriented, torque, or trajectory-control systems on real hardware.
  • Experience with CAN, CAN FD, or EtherCAT, including protocol analysis, debugging, and timing verification.
  • Understanding of control theory, system dynamics, Laplace transforms, Bode plots, poles and zeros, stability, and bandwidth.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Python or C++ for modeling, firmware tooling, test automation, or data processing.

Nice to have

  • Experience with EtherCAT, SOEM, Beckhoff hardware, or TwinCAT real-time platforms.
  • Experience with HiL and SIL testing, FPGA platforms, or equivalent systems.
  • Experience with motor characterization, including cogging torque, friction modeling, and thermal dynamics.
  • Familiarity with functional safety standards and fielded-system support.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work across hardware, firmware, controls, infrastructure, and robotics systems.
  • Participate in an end-to-end robotics development environment focused on real-world deployment.
  • Compensation includes equity.
