TL;DR
Firmware and Embedded Software Engineer (Robotics) (C/C++/RTOS): Designing and developing real-time embedded software for humanoid robot subsystems with an accent on motion control, sensor integration, communication networks, and hardware-software integration. Focus on implementing low-latency control systems, developing firmware for microcontrollers and SoCs, and validating reliable operation in complex electromechanical systems.

Location: On-site in Vancouver, Canada

Salary: $140–$180 CAD per year

hirify.global develops commercially scalable and safe hirify.global robots, including the HMND-01 Alpha platform used in industrial pilots.

What you will do

  • Design and develop embedded software for real-time control of hirify.global robot subsystems.
  • Build motion-control systems, sensor interfaces, communication networks, hardware abstraction layers, and low-level drivers.
  • Write and debug firmware for microcontrollers, FPGAs, ASICs, and SoCs.
  • Integrate and optimize sensors, actuators, motors, and communication modules.
  • Implement and manage EtherCAT, CAN, UART, SPI, and I2C communication protocols.
  • Test, validate, troubleshoot, document, and own embedded software from concept through deployment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded software or firmware for robotics, embedded systems, or real-time hardware platforms.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in C and C++, with Python experience for testing or tooling.
  • Strong understanding of embedded architecture, hardware-software interfaces, RTOS, and real-time performance.
  • Experience with communication protocols including EtherNet, EtherCAT, CAN, SPI, UART, or I2C, as well as sensors, actuators, and motor-control systems.
  • Ability to debug and validate hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in-circuit debuggers in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ROS or ROS2, FPGA or SoC development, and distributed robotic control systems.
  • Experience with EtherCAT-based motor drivers and real-time control networks.
  • Experience developing safety-critical or high-reliability embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
