TL;DR
Staff Software Engineer, Hardware Interface (C++/Robotics): Building low-level software for commercially deployed humanoid robots with an accent on hardware interfaces, high-bandwidth control, diagnostics, safety, and cross-domain integration. Focus on architecting production-ready systems, debugging electrical-mechanical-software failures, integrating industrial fieldbuses, and leading complex prototype development.

Location: Hybrid position based in Fremont, California, United States; all roles are U.S.-based and current authorization to work in the United States is required.

Salary: $230,000–$299,000 USD per year

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and evolve modern C++ software components that interface with operating-system drivers and robot hardware.
  • Set technical direction and architecture for high-bandwidth, low-latency hardware interface software.
  • Integrate software, electrical, mechanical, and robotic systems across prototype and production environments.
  • Debug complex cross-domain failures and establish diagnostics, observability, and failure-handling practices.
  • Integrate computing systems through Wi-Fi, networking, serial communications, and industrial fieldbuses.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the team.

Requirements

  • MS in robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, with 8+ years of industry experience or equivalent experience.
  • Strong expertise in modern C++ for complex, performance-sensitive systems.
  • Experience designing and delivering large-scale software with significant hardware/software integration complexity.
  • Proficiency with recent Linux systems and extensive experience developing and debugging hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Experience debugging electrical, mechanical, and software problems in electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with automation fieldbuses such as EtherCAT, CAN, or Profinet; ability to lead technical discussions and influence engineering decisions.

Nice to have

  • Experience with real-time or low-latency systems and embedded C++.
  • Experience with electronic circuit debugging tools, brushless motors, and motor control.
  • Knowledge of Linux networking protocols and configuration.
  • Experience with Python, Git, Jira, feature branching, and continuous integration and deployment.
