TL;DR
Controls Engineer (Robotics) (C/C++/STM32): Developing and validating control systems for robotic products with an accent on servo performance, motion accuracy, actuator modeling, and safety-rated monitoring. Focus on benchmarking control loops across CAN and EtherCAT, suppressing vibration under dynamic loads, and debugging issues across software, firmware, electrical, and mechanical systems.

Location: Glen Cove, NY, United States; onsite at headquarters at least 3 days per week

Salary: $180K–$215K annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

Company

hirify.global develops robotics, vision, and networking platforms that make real-world automation more accessible across industries.

What you will do

  • Own control performance across robotic products, including smooth motion, tracking accuracy, and impedance control.
  • Design and maintain control-loop benchmarking and validation for loop rates, synchronization jitter, and tracking error across CAN and EtherCAT architectures.
  • Model actuator motor, gearbox, and feedback plants, validate models through physical testing, and define production tolerance bands.
  • Implement safety-rated monitoring and stop functions and build tooling for tuning, hardware characterization, diagnostics, and fault injection.
  • Optimize servo stability, disturbance rejection, and vibration suppression under dynamic loading conditions.
  • Debug system-level issues across software, firmware, electrical, and component behavior while mentoring engineers and advising on technical strategy.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience modeling control systems, tuning control loops on real-world systems, and validating models through physical experiments.
  • Strong classical controls expertise, including analytical and heuristic tuning, plant and controller modeling, gain and phase margin analysis, bandwidth testing, signal processing, and filtering.
  • Working knowledge of firmware, electrical, and mechanical systems for cross-domain troubleshooting.
  • Experience with C/C++, STM32, MATLAB/Simulink, FreeRTOS or similar RTOS, CAN, EtherCAT, Linux, and modern CI/CD tooling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a practical focus on simplicity, reliability, execution, and user impact.
  • Ability to work from the Glen Cove headquarters at least 3 days per week.

Nice to have

  • Experience with modern control techniques such as MPC.
  • Experience with encoders, sensors, and sensor fusion.
  • Experience interfacing with robotic motion-planning systems.
  • Electrical or board-level debugging experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DMMs.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on foundational robotics technologies including motor and actuator control, embedded communications, system health monitoring, logging, and hardware bring-up.
  • Collaborate across controls, firmware, electrical, mechanical, and higher-level software teams.
  • Equity and bonus opportunities are available in addition to salary.
  • Environment values self-direction, creativity, resourcefulness, simplicity, reliability, and execution.
