Senior Firmware Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Seattle, United States

Salary: $170K–$210K per year, plus equity, bonus, and relocation support.

What you will do

• Design and implement embedded C++ firmware for the Generation 2 autonomous machinery platform.
• Develop low-level drivers, hardware abstraction layers, system services, and interfaces for sensors, actuators, ECUs, and communication buses.
• Implement deterministic real-time behavior, robust error handling, watchdogs, and fail-safe mechanisms.
• Lead hardware bring-up and integration for new boards and work with Electrical and Mechanical Engineering on interface validation.
• Build telemetry, logging, debugging, firmware update, and observability capabilities for fleet-scale operations.
• Mentor engineers and improve CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and firmware development practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 5+ years of professional firmware or embedded systems development experience.
• Strong C++ experience in embedded or systems programming environments.
• Experience with microcontrollers or embedded Linux, hardware interfaces, and CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, and Ethernet protocols.
• Strong debugging skills across hardware and software boundaries, with experience delivering production-quality and reliable systems.
• Ability to work cross-functionally on safety, validation, integration, and real-world deployment.

Nice to have

• Experience with safety-critical, real-time, robotics, autonomy, or heavy equipment systems.
• Familiarity with RTOS, real-time scheduling, hardware bring-up, and board-level debugging.
• Experience with OTA updates, bootloaders, secure updates, embedded observability, HIL testing, or hardware test automation.
• Experience working in high-reliability or high-entropy environments.
