TL;DR
Lead Semiconductor Fabrication Scientist (Quantum Computing): Developing and manufacturing microfabricated ion traps for quantum computing, from concept creation and design through fabrication, packaging, and characterization, with an accent on semiconductor and MEMS process integration. Location: Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, United States; on-site. Candidates must be U.S. Persons as defined in the posting and must meet stated national security eligibility requirements.

Salary: $164,000–$205,000 annually, inclusive of the bonus target.

What you will do

  • Develop and manufacture microfabricated ion traps across concept creation, design, layout, fabrication, packaging, and characterization.
  • Assess current and future ion-trap requirements and develop designs and processes that meet them.
  • Generate new ideas and intellectual property for ion-trap features and components.
  • Work with scientists, engineers, and technicians to translate system requirements into functional hardware.
  • Anticipate fabrication risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead supplier, partnership, co-development, and long-range planning activities for future trap designs and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 8+ years, or PhD with 6+ years in MEMS fabrication, IC fabrication, integrated optics of waveguides, ion-trap fabrication, or chip-scale photonics.
  • Must be a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or worker granted asylum or refugee status.
  • Must meet U.S. Government national security requirements; candidates who are nationals of China or Russia must also be U.S. citizens.
  • Demonstrated leadership in microfabricated device design, process development, and characterization.
  • Experience with semiconductor or MEMS processes and tools, including layout, thin-film deposition, patterning, photolithography, deep reactive ion etching, process integration, and 2.5D/3D packaging.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, initiative, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Nice to have

  • PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering.
  • Experience developing ion traps, integrated photonics, and related devices.
  • Experience interfacing with a semiconductor foundry.
  • Published research results in the relevant field.
