Lead Electrical Engineer (Quantum Computing)

Location: Berkeley, California, United States. On-site position.

Base salary: $165,000–$215,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and deploy hardware that generates microwave pulses for controlling and reading qubits.
• Collaborate with embedded software engineers, mechanical engineers, physicists, and internal and external partners to define system requirements.
• Capture schematics and layouts for circuit boards containing digital, analog, and RF components.
• Specify and design low-noise power supply rails, precise clock distribution, and high-speed transceivers.
• Create and execute tests using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, and qubit-related equipment.
• Lead projects through conception, manufacturing, testing, and delivery while mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence.

Requirements

• BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, with 10+ years of experience.
• Experience leading projects across diverse teams in startups or dynamic work environments.
• Ability to operate oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and VNAs.
• Experience taking electrical designs through the full design cycle, including manufacturing and test.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across disciplines.

Nice to have

• Analog design and simulation experience with SPICE or an equivalent tool.
• Knowledge of Nyquist zones, convolution, cross-correlation, and numerically controlled oscillators.
• Exposure to Verilog/VHDL, digital hardware design, and FPGA development.
• Familiarity with Python and scientific libraries such as NumPy and SciPy.
• Understanding of RF design and testing.
