Senior Metrology Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Milpitas, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $146,000–$210,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Select, develop, maintain, and improve measurement systems, metrology equipment, and tools.
• Develop non-destructive measurement methods for challenging environments.
• Create standard operating procedures and workflows for sample measurement.
• Provide written and verbal training for staff, technicians, and other users.
• Develop and use data management systems, including laboratory information management systems and manufacturing execution systems.
• Collaborate with R&D technical staff, process engineers, technicians, internal customers, metrology vendors, and service providers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent industrial experience, including materials science, electrical engineering, or physics.
• 7+ years of experience as a process or metrology engineer.
• Thorough understanding of measurement systems, including optical and electron microscopy, surface probe measurements, optical and NIR probes, and x-ray measurements.
• Experience working with metrology vendors and directing metrology service providers.
• Ability to work successfully with internal customers, take direction from supervisors, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to create work instructions for staff and technicians and provide training.
• Commitment to safety and quality, including mitigation of industrial hazards such as heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.
• Meticulous attention to detail, procedural discipline, timely execution, excellent written and verbal communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs and perform stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
• Willingness to travel or occasionally work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts, including a compressed work-week schedule.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or Ph.D.
• Experience in semiconductor, battery, solar cell, optoelectronics, or related fields.
• Experience with high-uptime systems.
