Senior Field Mechanical Engineer - Assembly (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, MA, United States; on-site 5 days per week during assembly operations

Salary: $110,000–$185,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own and manage the assembly sequence for a workstation, initially focused on Toroidal Field Coil semicircle sub-assemblies.
• Define first-encounter work scopes, including manifold and magnet sub-assembly installation.
• Resolve fit, method, component-handling, and non-conformance issues while maintaining functional requirements.
• Procure or design tools, fixtures, and manipulation equipment for upcoming assembly operations.
• Test, implement, and hand off processes and tooling to production technicians.
• Provide manufacturing and assembly feedback during SPARC subsystem design reviews and support hands-on Tokamak assembly.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.
• 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with demonstrated project ownership.
• 4+ years overseeing an active construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration process.
• 4+ years of experience with CAD software.
• Ability to work on-site in Devens, MA five days per week when assembly operations are underway, with possible first- or second-shift assignment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work around industrial hazards, including heat, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of experience with Siemens NX.
• Experience with lifting operations, welding, piping and tubing construction, or joining.
• Experience with complex, delicate, tightly packaged, or large-scale assemblies.
• Experience designing alignment and positioning fixtures.
• Experience with fast-paced construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration builds.
