Staff Quality Engineer - Advanced Metrology Integration (Manufacturing)

Location: Devens, MA, United States; on-site. The role may occasionally require travel, nights, weekends, or on-call work.

Salary: $130,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity and benefits. The range reflects new-hire salaries across all US locations.

What you will do

• Serve as the subject matter expert and technical authority for dimensional management, GD&T, and quality strategy for HTS Magnet production and the SPARC Project.
• Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to translate design intent into manufacturable GD&T requirements and practical fabrication methods.
• Architect measurement systems, inspection methods, tooling, and process controls for large metallic components and complex geometries.
• Lead risk-informed QA controls, non-conformance dispositions, PFMEAs, and Quality Plans for sub-system installation and assembly.
• Analyze manufacturing data using control charts and process capability studies to identify process drift and drive process adjustments.
• Lead advanced MSA and Gage R&R studies and provide technical coaching to QC Inspectors and Quality Engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Materials Science, or Manufacturing Engineering.
• 10+ years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing, assembly, or equipment manufacturing environment, focused on transitioning new products to production.
• Program-level ownership of dimensional management or quality strategy, beyond executing inspection plans defined by others.
• Experience architecting inspection systems and measurement strategies for complex hardware, including defining what to measure, how to measure it, and acceptance criteria.
• Mastery of GD&T according to ASME Y14.5, with the ability to translate tolerances into practical manufacturing work instructions.
• Deep knowledge of CMM, Romer Arm, and Laser Tracker applied to complex geometries.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, Six Sigma, SPC, process capability analysis, PFMEA, MSA, and APQP.
• Experience with Minitab or JMP, MS Excel including VBA, and MS Visio.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and perform stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or extended sitting.
• Ability to work in a facility with industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of non-destructive evaluation methods including dye penetrant, ultrasonic, eddy current, and X-ray.
• Knowledge of cryogenics.
• New product introduction experience in a low-volume manufacturing environment.
• Ability to provide technical coaching and indirect leadership to QC Inspectors and Quality Engineering teams.
• Proficiency in Minitab or JMP for process capability analysis and Six Sigma methodologies.
