Metrology Engineer (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States. On-site work required, with occasional travel or nights, weekends, and on-call work.

Salary: $92,000–$135,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and refine advanced mechanical inspection techniques for complex measurement challenges.
• Qualify and document inspection methods, including procedures, work instructions, and capability evidence, in partnership with Quality Engineering.
• Collaborate with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering on production readiness and rapid issue resolution.
• Evaluate and select metrology equipment and technologies, including ROI, capability, and implementation planning; maintain equipment and standards and perform 5S and calibration or verification activities.
• Provide design-for-inspection input during drawing release, GD&T definition, and inspection-standard development; design and procure inspection fixtures and tooling.
• Present dimensional inspection results to technical and non-technical stakeholders and cross-train as a Quality Technician to perform routine inspections.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent industry experience in lieu of a degree.
• 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or field environment.
• Demonstrated experience developing advanced metrology or inspection techniques and programming metrology or manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to interpret complex mechanical drawings and apply GD&T; working knowledge of machining and fabrication processes.
• CAD design experience; Siemens NX is preferred.
• CMM programming experience; ZEISS Calypso is preferred.
• Experience using portable metrology equipment such as Creaform systems, laser trackers, or CMM arms.
• Working knowledge of quality systems fundamentals and comfort using Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence or similar platforms.
• Strong communication skills, including presenting technical information to broad audiences.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform extended typing, standing, and sitting, and work around industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
• Willingness to travel or work occasional required nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Nice to have

• PolyWorks Inspector experience.
• Hands-on experience with a range of metrology equipment and measurement approaches.
• Experience creating and implementing procedures, work instructions, and training materials.
• Familiarity with statistical quality tools such as gage R&R and DOE.
• Quality experience in a regulated industry such as aerospace or medical.
• Working knowledge of ERP and MES systems.
• Experience as a field metrologist or supporting on-site measurements.
