TL;DR
Metrology Engineer (Mechanical Inspection): Developing, validating, and deploying inspection methods for highly engineered fusion hardware supporting the SPARC project with an accent on advanced measurement systems, CMM programming, GD&T, and repeatable inspection processes. Focus on solving ambiguous measurement challenges, designing inspection tooling, qualifying methods, and presenting dimensional results across manufacturing, quality, design engineering, and R&D.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site

Salary: $70,000–$120,000 per year, plus equity and benefits. The range applies to new hires across US locations.

What you will do

  • Develop and refine advanced mechanical inspection techniques for complex hardware supporting the SPARC project.
  • Qualify and document inspection methods, procedures, work instructions, and capability evidence.
  • Partner with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Design Engineering, and R&D to support production readiness and resolve issues.
  • Evaluate metrology equipment and technologies, maintain equipment and standards, and perform calibration and verification activities.
  • Provide design-for-inspection input during drawing release, GD&T definition, and inspection-standard development.
  • Design and procure inspection fixtures and tooling, perform routine inspections, and present dimensional results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing, production, or field environments.
  • Experience developing advanced metrology or inspection techniques and programming metrology or manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to interpret complex mechanical drawings and apply GD&T; working knowledge of machining, fabrication, and quality systems.
  • CMM programming experience, preferably with ZEISS Calypso, and experience with portable metrology equipment such as Creaform systems, laser trackers, or CMM arms.
  • CAD design experience, preferably with Siemens NX, plus strong communication and presentation skills.

Nice to have

  • PolyWorks Inspector experience and hands-on experience with varied metrology equipment.
  • Experience creating procedures, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Knowledge of statistical quality tools such as gage R&R and DOE.
  • Quality experience in regulated industries such as aerospace or medical, and familiarity with ERP or MES systems.
  • Field metrology experience or experience supporting on-site measurements.
