NDT Manager – Responsible Level III

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site. The role may require occasional travel and work on nights, weekends, or on-call assignments.

Salary: $141,000–$215,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead NDT Operations as the technical leader, people manager, Responsible Level III, and Certifying Authority.
• Build and scale NDT capabilities from SPARC manufacturing and assembly into the future ARC fleet, identifying technology and competency gaps.
• Oversee NDT inspections across manufacturing, CFS-2 construction, tokamak assembly, and vendor sites, covering UT/UTPA, RT using CR/DR, ET, PT, MT, and VT.
• Partner with EHS Radiation Safety to ensure safe and compliant industrial radiography operations.
• Manage technician scheduling, qualification, certification, training, audits, technical support, and troubleshooting.
• Use inspection results to support nonconformances and RCCA, improve NDT capabilities, and feed lessons learned into process and design improvements.

Requirements

• 12+ years of NDT experience on critical components, including heavy-wall welds, complex geometries, or other high-integrity applications.
• Level III certification under ASNT, NAS 410, or ISO 9712 in UT/PAUT and RT.
• At least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity, with proven leadership of an NDT team.
• Working knowledge of PT, MT, and VT sufficient to oversee, audit, and certify technicians.
• Hands-on experience with industrial radiography using digital techniques, including CR and/or DR.
• Strong knowledge of ASME Section V, ASME Section VIII.2, and applicable ASTM NDT standards.
• Strong working command of PAUT and encoded scanning, with familiarity with TFM/FMC, sufficient to develop procedures, direct examinations, and audit results.
• Ability to serve as the Responsible Level III and Certifying Authority, and demonstrated ability to build and scale a technical function.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and perform standing, stooping, and sitting for extended periods; willingness to work around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics while maintaining a strong safety focus.

Nice to have

• Additional Level III certifications in PT, VT, and MT.
• GD&T and metrology experience.
• Experience with Minitab or JMP, MS Excel including VBA, and MS Visio.
• Excellent communication and organization skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.
• Experience assembling large metallic structures.
• Level III certification in ET; Level II certification with a documented path to Level III may be considered.
• Experience serving as, or ability to qualify as, the industrial Radiation Safety Officer for radiography.
