Software Engineer III (AI)

Location: Hybrid role in London, UK. Applicants must have the right to work in the United Kingdom.

Salary: £59,200–£97,000 GBP base salary annually, plus bonus or commission.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain software features across varied internal codebases, adapting to different languages, frameworks, and platforms.
• Add AI capabilities to products, including model and API integrations, retrieval, prompt and context design, tooling, agent orchestration, caching, error handling, and cost and latency management.
• Build measurable evaluation and automated testing systems for AI features to prevent quality regressions as models, prompts, and dependencies change.
• Create reusable agentic development tooling, including skills, commands, subagents, hooks, MCP integrations, and project-level guidance.
• Prototype difficult solutions, improve legacy codebases through testing and documentation, and raise engineering productivity.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, QA, and owning engineering teams to define scope, merge reviewed changes, and hand over maintainable solutions.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical or scientific field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid commercial software development experience shipping reliable software used by others.
• Strong capability in at least one programming language and the ability to become productive in others.
• Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, concurrency, networking, APIs, testing, and software security fundamentals.
• Practical experience with modern AI development tooling or demonstrated ability to learn and apply new tools quickly.
• Strong communication, collaboration, adaptability, and problem-solving skills when working in unfamiliar codebases.

Nice to have

• Experience with Claude Code, Codex, or similar agentic coding tools, including reusable extensions and project-level guidance.
• Production experience integrating LLMs or other models through APIs, SDKs, RAG, tool calling, agent frameworks, or local inference.
• Experience evaluating AI systems with test sets, benchmarks, output-quality measurements, or regression checks.
• Experience improving legacy codebases, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, or Python automation.
• Experience in security-sensitive environments and breadth across backend, desktop, mobile, embedded, or systems software.
