Mechanical Engineer (Structures) - Space Solar

Location: Los Angeles (Hawthorne), California, United States; onsite

Salary: $100,000–$125,000 for Level 1 or $125,000–$160,000 for Level 2 annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own primary and secondary structures, brackets, housings, and mechanisms from concept through detailed design, fabrication, testing, and flight.
• Perform hand calculations and FEA to size hardware for launch, landing, thermal, and operational loads while maintaining positive safety margins.
• Create manufacturing and assembly drawings with GD&T and select materials, fasteners, and joining methods for space environments.
• Define and execute static-load, vibration, shock, and modal qualification and acceptance tests, correlating analytical models with test data.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, thermal, avionics, propulsion, and controls teams to integrate structures and design for manufacturability and production rate.
• Optimize mass and simplify designs by reducing unnecessary complexity, part count, and overhead.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in mechanical, aerospace, structural, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 1 year of mechanical design or structural engineering experience; internship and academic experience are applicable.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and the ability to produce detailed engineering drawings with GD&T.
• Preferred experience with FEA tools such as Nastran, Abaqus, Ansys, or Femap.
• Preferred experience with flight hardware, high-reliability hardware, structural testing, lightweight structures, mechanisms, and aerospace structural standards.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. government authorizations under export regulations.
