TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer, Spacecraft (II-III) (Aerospace): Designing and developing flight-ready mechanical systems for LEO/GEO satellites, smallsat platforms, and on-orbit servicing vehicles with an accent on spacecraft structures, mechanisms, CAD, and hardware integration. Focus on designing for launch loads and on-orbit operation, integrating avionics and propulsion hardware, and supporting qualification testing and design reviews.

Location: Onsite near Denver, Colorado, or Long Beach, California. Successful candidates must be located near one of these sites.

Base salary: $90,000–$165,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors for space security and sustainability.

What you will do

  • Design, analyze, and optimize spacecraft structures, mechanisms, assemblies, and deployment systems for satellites and on-orbit servicing vehicles.
  • Develop structural systems from concept studies and prototyping through flight hardware delivery.
  • Design for launch-load environments, including sine burst, random vibration, and shock requirements.
  • Integrate avionics, electronics packaging, thermal interfaces, harness routing, propulsion mounts, and propellant lines.
  • Create 3D CAD models, piece-part drawings, assembly drawings, and GD&T documentation using NX and/or SolidWorks.
  • Support PDR, CDR, and TRR reviews, configuration management, hardware testing, qualification, and acceptance activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 1–7 years of professional mechanical design experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or a related industry.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD modeling and drawings in NX and/or SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, structural and mechanical design principles, load paths, joints, materials selection, and mechanisms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions with strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance and meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Experience with spacecraft or flight hardware, smallsat or CubeSat platforms, on-orbit servicing, docking, or capture mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with launch loads, thermal cycling, vacuum outgassing, radiation, FEA tools such as NASTRAN or Ansys, and spacecraft standards.
  • Experience with propulsion mechanical integration, full hardware lifecycle activities, PLM tools, or engineering change processes.
  • Startup or fast-paced development experience and an active U.S. security clearance.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on spacecraft and space-security systems intended for demanding operational environments.
  • Health, dental, vision, and HRA/HSA options.
  • PTO, paid holidays, 401(k), parental leave, and equity.
  • Collaborative, cross-functional environment focused on ambitious engineering outcomes.
