TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace) (Atmospheric Recovery): Designing and delivering reusable spacecraft flight and ground hardware for atmospheric recovery, from requirements and CAD through build support and qualification, with an accent on deployable structures, recovery mechanisms, and precision landing hardware. Focus on structural and thermal analysis, design reviews, environmental testing, and rapid design-build-test cycles for high-energy flight environments.

Location: Playa Vista, California; in-person five days per week. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals under applicable regulations, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $125,000–$160,000 per year, plus annual performance-based bonuses and equity.

Company

hirify.global is an orbital logistics company developing reusable Earth-return vehicles for in-space manufacturing, on-orbit warehousing, global delivery, defense, commercial cargo, research, and critical aid missions.

What you will do

  • Design and develop mechanical systems for atmospheric recovery, including deployable structures, aerodynamic decelerators, recovery mechanisms, airframe interfaces, and precision landing hardware.
  • Create CDR-level CAD models, drawings, specifications, analyses, test plans, bills of materials, and work instructions.
  • Define hardware requirements and interfaces with mission operations, payload customers, systems, integration, and test engineers.
  • Perform or coordinate structural and thermal analyses to verify hardware margins.
  • Write and execute qualification and acceptance test procedures and support environmental test campaigns.
  • Lead design reviews and support hardware through design, build, testing, and production or flight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
  • 5–10 years of experience designing flight hardware structures and mechanisms.
  • Experience taking hardware from concept through production and/or flight.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or NX and mechanical analysis tools including structural and thermal analysis in Ansys or SolidWorks.
  • Experience with structures, mechanisms, deployables, aerodynamic structures, load paths, interfaces, and environmental requirements for high-energy flight environments.
  • Strong technical documentation, communication, engineering requirements, and interface control document skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with formal PDR or CDR reviews and qualification testing.
  • Background in reentry systems, atmospheric flight vehicles, thermal protection system interfaces, parachute or paraglider systems, or integrating soft goods with rigid structures.
  • Experience in hypersonic, supersonic, or high-aerodynamic-load environments and field testing such as drop tests, flight tests, or parachute deployments.
  • Familiarity with degree-of-freedom-limited mechanisms and precision actuation in harsh environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage, including company-paid base medical coverage and all vision and dental premiums.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and a 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and nine paid holidays.
  • Equity participation and performance-based bonuses.
  • Daily lunch stipend, unlimited snacks, coffee, and tea.
  • Pet-friendly office with regular company events and happy hours.
