Hardware Development Engineer (Material Science or Physics): Designing and executing tests for hard disk drive spacing, tribology, reliability, and evolving characterization methods with an accent on experimental analysis, metrology tools, and test automation. Focus on interpreting complex physical data, developing Python-based processing workflows, troubleshooting tester systems, and driving HDD design improvements.
Location: Onsite in Biñan City, Laguna, CALABARZON, Philippines; dayshift schedule

What you will do
- Plan and execute experiments evaluating spacing, tribology, reliability, and performance of new hard disk drive designs.
- Operate and oversee advanced spacing characterization, tribology, metrology, and tester equipment.
- Analyze experimental data using statistical methods and prepare technical reports with design recommendations.
- Develop test methodologies and automation scripts for data processing and report generation.
- Lead tests and projects, troubleshoot system limitations, and ensure delivery within committed timelines.
- Collaborate with global counterparts on spacing characterization initiatives and lead technician activities.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Applied Physics, Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience; or bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Professional experience in tribology, physical characterization, and metrology.
- Programming proficiency, particularly in Python, plus intermediate skills in JMP, Minitab, Microsoft Office, and Power BI.
- Strong understanding of electronics, physics, materials science, and magnetic theory.
- Strong problem-solving, technical writing, communication, multitasking, and independent execution skills.
- Open to onsite employment in Biñan City, Philippines, and a dayshift schedule.
Nice to have
- Semiconductor or electronics manufacturing experience.
- HDD or HGA-disk tribology and magnetic head test engineering experience.
- Signal processing, software or firmware development, LabView, or instrument integration and control experience.
- Extensive experience in science or experimental laboratories.
