Director of DevOps and Tooling (Robotics)

Location: Clarksburg, Maryland, United States. Must be a U.S. Person and eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance in the future.

Salary: $175,000–$250,000 per year, plus equity and full-time benefits.

What you will do

• Own the technical roadmap for cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, developer tooling, internal platforms, and infrastructure-as-code standards.
• Design, operate, and scale cloud and on-premise infrastructure supporting autonomy development, vehicle software, simulation, and business systems.
• Build developer platforms and CI/CD pipelines for embedded, robotics, cloud, cross-compilation, hardware targets, and long-running simulation workloads.
• Establish observability, incident response, reliability targets, and cost-efficiency practices for internal platforms.
• Build automated test infrastructure, including hardware-in-the-loop benches, virtualized test racks, telemetry storage, indexing, and field-log replay.
• Hire, mentor, and lead DevOps, platform, and infrastructure engineers while managing roadmaps and delivery across multiple programs.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering experience, including 3+ years leading and growing engineering teams.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure and Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent infrastructure-as-code tooling.
• Production experience operating Kubernetes clusters and container-based workloads.
• Organizational-scale ownership of CI/CD systems such as GitLab CI or Jenkins, with measurable improvements to build, test, or release cycle time.
• Experience with regulated or controlled environments and working knowledge of ITAR, NIST 800-171, CMMC, or comparable frameworks.
• Proficiency in a general-purpose programming language, observability and monitoring stacks such as Prometheus and Grafana, and test infrastructure involving physical devices.

Nice to have

• Experience founding or rebuilding a DevOps, platform, or infrastructure function.
• Background in aerospace, defense, automotive, robotics, or another hardware-intensive environment.
• Experience with AWS GovCloud, Landing Zone Accelerator, or controlled-environment migrations.
• Experience reducing infrastructure costs while preserving capability and compliance.
• Experience with ERP, MES, PLM, distributed, or near-shore engineering teams.
