TL;DR
Hardware Technician (Spacecraft): Building, integrating, and testing flight-quality electronic boards, harnesses, and mechanical test setups for a gridded-ion thruster with an accent on high-reliability assembly, instrumentation, and hardware traceability. Focus on supporting AIT campaigns, environmental testing, high-voltage systems, and spacecraft-level integration.

Location: Reading (London), United Kingdom; hybrid with one dedicated remote day per week

hirify.global Space develops ultra-low Earth orbit satellites operating at approximately 200 km to advance global connectivity and insight.

What you will do

  • Assemble, rework, inspect, and document flight-quality electronic boards and wiring harnesses.
  • Build and terminate cable assemblies, including crimping, soldering, lacing, backshell installation, and EMC/high-voltage protection.
  • Construct mechanical and electrical test setups, fixtures, jigs, and bench instrumentation from drawings and procedures.
  • Support AIT campaigns for the AURA gridded-ion thruster, its control electronics, propellant feed system, and spacecraft-level integration.
  • Perform functional, continuity, insulation, thermal-vacuum, vibration, and performance testing.
  • Maintain as-built records, test logs, travellers, and non-conformance reports for hardware traceability.

Requirements

  • IPC-A-610 Class 3 certification or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 harness and cable assembly certification.
  • Hands-on experience assembling, reworking, and inspecting electronic boards and harnesses.
  • Experience building mechanical and electrical test setups and supporting AIT or equivalent integration and test activities.
  • Confident use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, and DAQ systems.
  • ESD-aware working practices, ability to read technical drawings and schematics, and strong documentation discipline.

Nice to have

  • J-STD-001 soldering certification, preferably with the Space Addendum.
  • Cleanroom or ISO-classified environment experience.
  • Space, aerospace, defence, medical, or other high-reliability industry experience.
  • Familiarity with ECSS-Q-ST-70, high-voltage or power electronics, and basic CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA.
