Technician (Magnet Engineering)

Location: On-site in Zurich, with workshop operations based in Villigen and Böttstein, Switzerland

Developing the hardware and infrastructure for commercial stellarator fusion power plants by combining stellarator optimization, advanced computation, machine learning, and high-temperature superconducting magnets.

What you will do

• Perform hands-on workshop activities including machining, mechanical assembly, wiring, and component installation.
• Build, test, and iterate on mechanical and electromechanical prototypes.
• Support the manufacturing, integration, and troubleshooting of magnet prototype components and assemblies.
• Set up, fit, adjust, and modify parts during prototype construction and testing.
• Install, operate, and modify experimental setups and test rigs.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workshop and lab environment.

Requirements

• Technical training in mechanical engineering, polymechanics, or a related field, with hands-on workshop experience.
• Comfortable working with tools, machines, mechanical systems, wiring, assembly, and basic test or calibration equipment.
• Ability to read technical drawings and documentation.
• Detail-oriented, safety-conscious, reliable, proactive, and committed to quality and precision.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively in fast-paced technical or R&D environments.
• Good English required; German is a plus.

Nice to have

• Welding experience.
• Experience in prototype manufacturing or R&D environments.
• Familiarity with CNC or manual machining processes.
• Experience with mechanical installation and system integration.
• Experience with vacuum technology.
