Lead Experimental Physicist (AMO) - 902

Location: On-site in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. Travel of approximately 10% may be required. What you will do

• Build, operate, and maintain trapped-ion systems and supporting infrastructure using free-space optics and integrated photonics.
• Lead the design, development, verification, and deployment of methods and technologies for ion-based quantum computers.
• Help build an ion-trapping laboratory from the ground up.
• Lead and collaborate with scientists and engineers across disciplines.
• Mentor early-career scientists and engineers.
• Document, publish, and present experimental results internally and externally.

Requirements

• Ph.D. completed before starting the role.
• At least 7 years of experimental atomic physics experience, including time during the Ph.D.
• At least 4 years of experimental experience with trapped-ion systems, including time during the degree.
• U.S. Person status is required due to contractual requirements.
• Applicants must meet national-security nationality restrictions concerning China and Russia.
• Experience providing technical leadership to teams of scientists and engineers.

Nice to have

• Ph.D. in Physics or a related field.
• Experience building and leading research projects.
• Peer-reviewed publications related to trapped-ion systems.
• Programming experience for control systems, data collection, and analysis.
• Experience with integrated photonics, simulation and modeling, cryogenic systems, or ultra-high-vacuum systems.
