Staff Scientist, Quantum Algorithms and Applications (Quantum Computing)

Location: Bothell, Washington, United States; hybrid work from the Bothell office. Travel: up to 5%.

Salary: $174,520–$250,253 USD base compensation, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead condensed matter and high energy physics application projects independently against agreed goals.
• Connect scientific problems to quantum computation by selecting fault-tolerant algorithms and quantum-native formulations.
• Combine classical simulation and HPC workloads with quantum methods in integrated workflows.
• Compare quantum-computed results with experimental data, including neutron-scattering observables, dynamical structure factors, and spectral functions.
• Collaborate with fault-tolerant algorithms researchers, quantum chemistry specialists, and software engineers.
• Contribute to publications and external technical representation.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field, plus postdoctoral or industry experience and a record of independent research.
• Deep expertise in condensed matter or high energy physics, including areas such as magnetic systems, strongly correlated materials, superconductivity, spin dynamics, Fermi-Hubbard models, or lattice gauge theory.
• Practical experience with classical simulation methods and HPC workloads, with the ability to integrate classical and quantum approaches.
• Direct experience applying quantum algorithms to scientific problems, including quantum phase estimation, Hamiltonian simulation, or quantum singular value transformation.
• Scientific programming experience in Python and C++, including tool integration, computation, and code maintenance in version control.
• Access to export-controlled technology may require U.S. Person status, a necessary license, or confirmation of a license exception; government-contract work may require U.S. Person status.

Nice to have

• Experience with QuantumATK, Quantum Espresso, or VASP.
• Ability to design novel fault-tolerant algorithms.
• Peer-reviewed publications, client or partner-facing delivery experience, or active participation in the fault-tolerant quantum computing community.
• Familiarity with agentic AI tools such as OpenAI Codex or Anthropic Claude Code.
