Senior Quantum Scientist (Quantum Computing)

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; hybrid work with the option to work remotely a few days per week. Travel up to 5%.

Salary: $126,887–$181,949 USD annually, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Prototype and characterize coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits using laser and microwave fields.
• Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to reduce gate errors and optimize performance across device modules.
• Validate emerging trap technologies, including integrated electronics and photonics for scalable architectures.
• Analyze experimental data and debug complex hardware/software interactions affecting qubit reliability.
• Present research results internally, at conferences, and through external collaborations.

Requirements

• PhD in physics or a related discipline with a strong foundation in atomic or qubit-related physics.
• Expertise in experimental AMO physics or quantum computing; trapped-ion experience is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with quantum control, calibration, benchmarking, or coherent qubit control.
• Experience with spectroscopy or multi-level system simulation, control hardware characterization, gate-fidelity benchmarking, or running algorithms on quantum hardware.
• Strong programming, experimental data analysis, collaboration, and scientific communication skills.
• Access to export-controlled technology may require U.S. Person status, an applicable license, or a confirmed license exception.
