TL;DR
Propulsion AIT Engineer (Electric Propulsion): Building and executing assembly and qualification procedures for AURA X electric propulsion systems on ultra-low-Earth-orbit satellites, with an accent on pressurised hardware, test operations, and configuration-controlled documentation. Focus on developing pressure, leak, flow, and performance test procedures, operating rigs and instrumentation, and coordinating propulsion integration and environmental campaigns.

Location: Reading (London), United Kingdom; hybrid with one dedicated remote day per week

Company

hirify.global Space develops ultra-low-Earth-orbit satellites operating at approximately 200 km to advance global connectivity and insight.

What you will do

  • Own assembly instructions, work instructions, and build procedures for the AURA X propulsion system from component level through integrated module.
  • Write and maintain propulsion test plans and procedures covering pressure, proof, leak, functional flow, and performance characterisation campaigns.
  • Execute assembly and test procedures hands-on, operate test rigs and instrumentation, and record results to programme traceability standards.
  • Maintain the propulsion AIT schedule, coordinate test facilities and technicians, and ensure ground support equipment is available and calibrated.
  • Develop hazardous operations, propellant handling, and loading procedures for pressurised system activities.
  • Support satellite integration, environmental test campaigns, goods-in inspections, and non-conformance management.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience writing test, assembly, or work procedures for mechanical, fluidic, or propulsion hardware in a flight or high-reliability environment.
  • Hands-on experience executing procedures, working with pressurised systems, test rigs, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and system documentation accurately.
  • Experience with version control, review processes, configuration management, and traceability in a flight programme.
  • ESD-aware working practices, contamination control, and a strong safety mindset around pressurised and hazardous operations.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid setup in Reading (London); visa sponsorship and relocation support are available for international hires.

Nice to have

  • Experience in space, aerospace, defence, or another high-reliability industry.
  • Knowledge of proof, leak, burst, and flow testing, vacuum chamber operations, and electric propulsion or vacuum test environments.
  • Familiarity with ECSS standards or equivalent quality and workmanship frameworks.
  • Experience handling xenon or other inert propellants and supporting wider mechanical satellite integration.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work on ion propulsion and ultra-low-Earth-orbit satellite technology across the full satellite lifecycle.
  • High ownership and direct impact on the technology being developed.
  • Competitive salary and equity participation.
  • Private health insurance with dental and optical coverage and annual healthcare check-ups.
  • Hybrid working with one dedicated remote day per week.
  • Relocation package and visa sponsorship for eligible international hires.
