hirify.global is a leading European fusion energy startup and spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, dedicated to developing the world's first commercial stellarator fusion power plant.

What you will do

  • Own system-level architecture decisions to ensure the Alpha stellarator meets its mission requirements.
  • Close the loop between subsystem engineering feedback and high-level machine design.
  • Identify, quantify, and manage large model uncertainties within the design process.
  • Use first-principles estimates and reduced models to optimize performance and cost.
  • Collaborate across disciplines including plasma physics, magnets, cryogenics, and manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in physics, engineering, or an adjacent field.
  • Proven experience in complex machine design within industries like aerospace, semiconductors, or Formula 1.
  • Strong ability to reason across physics domains and apply appropriate analytical tools.
  • Proficiency in software engineering practices including Git, CI/CD, and the PyData stack.
  • Pragmatic mindset with a focus on fast iteration and actionable engineering insights.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Munich.
