TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and owning processes, precision tooling, automation, and inspection techniques for high-rate space solar hardware manufacturing with an accent on quality, yield, repeatability, and production scalability. Focus on designing assembly tooling, automating novel processes, implementing in-process inspection, and transferring hardware from development into stable production.

Location: Los Angeles (Hawthorne), California, United States

Salary: $100,000–$125,000 for Level 1 or $125,000–$160,000 for Level 2, plus equity

What you will do

  • Develop and perform acceptance testing for manufacturing processes, techniques, and tools supporting efficient, high-rate production.
  • Design and implement precision tooling to reduce assembly errors, improve quality, and minimize cycle time.
  • Automate novel manufacturing processes to ensure repeatability on high-rate production lines.
  • Collaborate with design engineering on design-for-manufacturing improvements to solar panel architecture.
  • Establish in-process inspection methods, including automated approaches, to improve first-pass yield.
  • Lead hardware handoff from development into documented, stable, and scalable production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in aerospace, manufacturing, materials, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 1 year of manufacturing and process design experience; internship and academic experience are applicable.
  • Experience with mechanical assembly methods, testing, failure mode effects analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and improving weld processes and weld inspection techniques, including automation.
  • Experience using SQL or other data management tools to set priorities and measure performance.
  • Must meet U.S. Government export-control eligibility requirements or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with mixed-value-stream or high-rate manufacturing lines.
  • Experience in aerospace, space, or other high-reliability hardware environments.
