TL;DR
Machinist (Aerospace): Machining one-off prototype parts, tools, and fixtures for hypersonic test vehicles with an accent on CNC operation, precision inspection, and tight-tolerance manufacturing. Focus on interpreting engineering drawings, planning machining sequences, maintaining machine tools, and supporting composite fabrication and aircraft systems when required.

Location: Mojave, California, United States; onsite

Salary: $32.00–$50.005 per hour

What you will do

  • Machine precision parts, tools, and fixtures using CNC and manual lathes, mills, waterjets, grinders, and other specialized equipment.
  • Run provided NC programs, set up and inspect first articles, and verify parts against engineering requirements.
  • Work with engineers, shop personnel, and customers to define machining methods and operation sequences.
  • Diagnose machine health and malfunctions, perform maintenance, and maintain safe operating conditions.
  • Support composite fabrication, including wet lay-up, pre-preg lay-up, gap mapping, and corner tapes.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of carrier aircraft and launch vehicle systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of machinist experience in aerospace or a comparable industry.
  • Strong mechanical and metallurgical background with the ability to machine aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and other materials.
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T, precision measuring tools, and manual machine operation.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM and machining centers; knowledge of SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Mastercam, or NX CAM.
  • Ability to manufacture tight-tolerance parts, design parts and fixtures, and plan machining operations.
  • Must be able to stand for at least 8 hours and handle items weighing up to 50 lbs.
