Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site, five days per week in the Toronto office; candidates must be based in Toronto or open to relocating to Toronto.

Compensation: Above C$200K plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and evolve the architecture of the core platform.
• Build scalable backend services supporting admissions automation, financial systems, and operational workflows.
• Lead the design and implementation of large engineering initiatives and break complex problems into technical solutions.
• Define standards for system design, testing, performance, reliability, security, and maintainable code.
• Work with product, data, operations, and leadership teams to translate business requirements into scalable systems.
• Mentor engineers, review system designs, and guide major architectural decisions across the organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep experience designing and building scalable backend systems and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Python, Django, TypeScript, and React.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, database design and development, software design patterns, and architecture.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams and making high-impact technical decisions independently.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP.
