Staff Engineer (Python)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid. Candidates must have the right to work in the jurisdiction where they will work.

Yearly salary: CAD 175,000–200,000.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable software systems.
• Drive architectural decisions, define technical standards, and align engineering strategies with business goals.
• Lead complex projects from conception through delivery in collaboration with engineering, product, and design teams.
• Own system performance, security, reliability, and long-term technical improvements.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and improve code quality through reviews and best practices.
• Communicate technical concepts to stakeholders and contribute to strategic decision-making.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software development experience with large-scale systems and application architecture.
• Experience with Python, Java, C++, or JavaScript; the stack includes Python, Flask, FastAPI, AWS, and Angular.
• Strong knowledge of software design patterns, architecture, distributed systems, and microservices.
• Experience with cloud technologies, DevOps practices, CI/CD, and automation.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience as a Tech Lead or Staff Engineer.
• Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks and data engineering best practices.
