Staff Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA; hybrid

Salary: $285k–$330k+ annually, plus equity grant

What you will do

• Lead the technical design and evolution of platforms, frameworks, and shared infrastructure for lending products.
• Partner with engineering teams across lending verticals to build reusable platform capabilities.
• Set technical direction through design documents, architecture reviews, and design discussions.
• Prioritize infrastructure improvements that accelerate product development and maintain system reliability.
• Improve engineering quality through mentoring, code review, team processes, and reliability practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally in a platform or product-focused environment.
• Experience leading ambiguous, cross-functional projects and making tradeoffs across reliability, scalability, developer experience, and time to value.
• Ability to identify commonalities across problem statements and design appropriate abstractions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across Engineering, Product, and Data Science teams.
• Commitment to high-quality software and engineering craftsmanship.

Nice to have

• Experience building internal platforms or frameworks used by other engineering teams.
• Experience in fintech, financial products, or embedded finance.
• Experience designing systems with strong correctness and auditability requirements.
