Senior Platform Engineer (Banking)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid in-office work requiring at least 2 days per week.

Salary: $200,000+ base salary annually, plus benefits and equity.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain foundational banking services and APIs used by multiple product teams.
• Own account, transaction, ledger, and money-movement platform primitives.
• Build integrations with banking partners and payment networks, including ACH and wires.
• Define service contracts, data models, and interface boundaries for dependable platform consumption.
• Improve reliability, observability, and performance across banking infrastructure.
• Partner with compliance and risk teams, contribute to architecture, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building backend or full-stack web applications, including substantial platform, infrastructure, or foundational-systems work.
• Deep experience designing APIs, services, and abstractions for consumption by other engineering teams.
• Background in financial systems, payments, ledgers, banking integrations, or similar domains where correctness and auditability are essential.
• Ability to model complex business domains precisely in relational databases.
• Experience owning foundational components with attention to contracts, versioning, reliability, and developer experience.
• Startup experience or a founder mindset.

Nice to have

• Experience with double-entry accounting systems or general ledger design.
• Experience in regulated industries or fintech infrastructure.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and distributed-systems patterns.
• Experience building developer-facing tooling, SDKs, or internal platforms.
