Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA; based in the Presidio office with a hybrid schedule

Salary: $130,000–$250,000 annual US base salary plus equity

What you will do

• Build and maintain backend systems for payments processing, transaction logic, real-time ledgering, and the core banking platform.
• Integrate directly with the Federal Reserve and real-time payment networks, prioritizing correctness and reliability.
• Design and implement APIs, services, and data pipelines used by internal teams and external developers.
• Improve resiliency, scalability, observability, performance, and fault tolerance across the distributed architecture.
• Lead platform initiatives involving authentication and authorization, event streaming, and change data capture.
• Develop mission-critical software with strong safety and compliance standards in a regulated financial environment.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering experience with distributed systems and financial infrastructure.
• Experience designing clean APIs, services, and data pipelines.
• Ability to build reliable, performant, and fault-tolerant systems.
• Ability to work in the San Francisco office on a hybrid schedule.
• Commitment to correctness, system safety, and compliance-sensitive engineering.
