Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid schedule based in the Presidio office in San Francisco, California, United States

Salary: $130,000–$250,000 annual US base salary plus equity

What you will do

• Build and maintain backend systems for payments processing, transaction logic, and real-time ledgering.
• Own integrations with the Federal Reserve and real-time payment networks.
• Design APIs, services, and data pipelines used by internal teams and external developers.
• Improve resiliency, scalability, and observability across distributed systems.
• Lead platform initiatives involving authentication and authorization, event streaming, and change data capture.
• Optimize mission-critical code for correctness, performance, fault tolerance, and safety in a regulated environment.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering experience.
• Experience with distributed systems, financial infrastructure, and API design.
• Ability to build reliable payment, ledgering, integration, and platform services.
• Focus on correctness, performance, fault tolerance, and system safety.
• Ability to work on a hybrid schedule from the San Francisco office.
